Is your PC doing evil?
Well now I have another reason to fear all the PCs in my house. According to an article in today’s New York Times (from a post on Boing Boing), more than 65 million personal computers have been hijacked by spammers and other Interweb scalawags and are being used for denial of service attacks, spamming, and collecting personal and financial information.
Damballa, a startup security firm focused on the botnet problem, says in the article that 11% of all PCs have been infected by hijacking programs, and another firm, MessageLabs, says 80% of all spam now comes from these zombie computers.
Pretty serious stuff, there, people. Now might be a good time for us all to upgrade our security software and run a full system scan.
