MASH units for robots
Around here we have a lot of fun fear mongering about killer robots and the coming robot uprising, but the fact is that robots are fighting a war, but on our side. The army has a flotilla of robots doing duty in Iraq finding and disposing of anti-personnel explosives. They are saving limbs and lives in the most dangerous place on Earth, and for that we should salute them. Or at least put them back together when they get blown to bits.
CNET has an interesting article on the Joint Robotics Repair Facility in Bagdad where technicians repair and rebuild robots to get them back out to the front line. They are helping maintain a force of more than 4,000 robots by servicing about 400 machines a week. That’s a pretty high casulty rate, but then war is hell afterall.
