Science Fiction Robots

The blog with a love/hate relationship with technology

Robot clockwatchers

According to the Japan Times, a temp agency in Tokyo is renting out robots as receptionists. Now the fatalist in me sees this as just another nail in the coffin, one more way the robots are going to take all our jobs and take over the world. Note the ominous quote from a company official:

Considering the growing worker shortage, we want to create a work environment where people and robots can cooperate

But on the other hand, it is kind of funny to think about htese bots becoming just clockwatchers for big companies. If the droids develop any kind of intelligence at all, you know they will find ways to surf the Internet, hang out in the break room, doing anything to get their eight hours in without doing any actual work. Could we be seeing the rise of the slacker bot?
