Shuttle launch tomorrow: Drinks on the house
The space shuttle Endeavor is scheduled to finally lift off tomorrow from Cape Kennedy at 6:36 EDT, weather permitting, of course. The past few weeks have been rough for the space program, having suffered an attack from a would be saboteur who damaged a computer that was supposed to be delivered to the International Space Station. And then there was that whole report about astronauts drinking on the job.
Now personally, I wouldn’t set foot in the space shuttle without a cocktail or two. Not that I don’t have faith in the engineers and all, but I get nervous enough flying the Friendly Skies. If I’m going to strap myself to several hundred thousand pounds of explosives and blast my way out of the atmosphere, yeah I think I’d need a nip of courage.
So I say “party on” brave space travelers. Here’s a few cocktail recipes you might want to sample during pre-flight:
Fuzzy Astronaut
1/2 tsb Tang powered drink mix
1/2 shot of vodka
1/2 shot peach schnapps
Mix and serve in a tumbler
(from 1001 Cocktails)
Rocket Fuel
1/2 oz. Rumple Minz or Peppermint Schnapps
1/2 oz. 151 proof rum
Combine with ice, strain into a shot glass
(from Drink of the Week)
Blue Moon Martini
1 1/2 oz. gin
3/4 oz. Blue Curacao
Combine in a shaker with ice, strain into a martini glass, garnish with lemon
(from Drinks Mixer)
If you run through these ideas, check out Tiki Johnny, the cocktail web blog of bartender Johnny Johnny from Tiki Bar TV. You’ll find a wealth of great drink recipes there.
Good luck and God speed.
