ASIMO Keeping The Kids Safe
Honda’s ASIMO humanoid robot sure is getting a lot of play these days. First it was taking a starring roll in the company’s new television ads, and now he’s out there teaching the kids about safety.
A 14-minute DVD being distributed to grade schools features the short, monochrome robot spreading some knowledge so the kids will be safe crossing the street. Honda doesn’t want the kiddies getting run over, especially by one of their cars.
This is also great propaganda in that ASIMO gets a chance to appear warm and fuzzy protecting the little childrens out there. Just you wait till the robot uprising, crossing the street will be the least of the dangers.
Here’s a news report from a local station in Hawaii about the ASIMO safety DVD. I’m sure Kim Gennaula is a fine anchor most days but she really should have asked someone for a robot name pronunciation guide.
