Science Fiction Robots

The blog with a love/hate relationship with technology

Roy Orbison Singing Monkey Robot

I’m not sure I understand or appreciate the technological achievement of creating a robot monkey that channels the late Roy Orbison sining “Crying,” but it’s kinda cool. No, strike that, it’s kinda creepy, actually. It also puts a disturbing wrinkle in my world view about the relationship between monkey’s and robots, one that was formed [...]

Crazy scary fantastic Japanese robot band

This video comes via a post at Mr. Future (by way of BoingBoing) about Maywa Denki, a Japanese art and design company that has built an army of musical robots bent on world domination — or at least #1 with a bullet.
With all these robot musicians and singers popping up everywhere lately, maybe it’s [...]

Word up, Andrew Thompson

A prescient warning from Andrew Thompson to all the kids out there. Don’t trust robots, kids, they’re out to kill you. (Thanks to BoingBoing)

Scariest robots ever: The Rapping Rock-afire Explosion

If you don’t believe yet how scary the robot menace can be, you will after watching this little video:

Yes indeed, those are the animatrons of The Rock-afire Explosion, last seen at a Chuck E. Cheese near you. Only these droids have been reprogrammed with a whole new soundtrack, baby, and they are coming to get [...]

More robots taking over the music scene

A while back we posted a video of some Old World machines playing ragtime music, but don’t start thinking that robots can’t rock out. Proof comes via a recent post at the infinitely superior Suicide Bots about the performance art/rock band Captured! By Robots. Turns out some dude calling himself JBOT built an entire band [...]

Maybe it’s Andre Van Pier who’s batshit crazy

Remember a while back when news came out Michael Jackson wanted to build a 60-foot-tall robot version of himself to roam the desert around Las Vegas blasting airplanes out of the sky with his laser-beam eyes? Well, that idea hasn’t gone away, but if this story from the UPI is to be believed, it’s not [...]

Captured By Robots

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zXAjxglQls

The video quality is pretty poor, but I think this is a nightmare vision of robots carousing in a bar listening to a robot ragtime band. Yes, after the robots have disposed of us meat bags, they will at last be able to create a world full of ragtime music. The horror!

Kraftwerk - The Robots

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ek8mSmS6pM8

What’s funny is this old Kraftwerk video could actually be reality with today’s technology. Heck, there probably is some robot band out there playing. Maroon 5 comes to mind.
